"A great soul serves everyone all the time. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again." — Maya Angelou
Ronald Scott Kemp, 68, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 14, 2025, after courageously battling cancer, stroke, and a spinal injury he could not overcome. Born on December 6, 1957, in Nashville, Tennessee, Scott was a proud son of Music City, where he was raised and graduated from Stratford High School in 1975. In the early 1990s, he moved to Newnan, Georgia, to pursue his career with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, where, known as Ron to his work friends, his dedication and skill earned him the respect of his union brothers and sisters.
Scott personified strength and courage in everything he did. His life was filled with struggles, but he overcame them all, finding his greatest strength in helping those he loved. A devoted husband to his wife, Lori, to whom he was married for most of his life, Scott was also an amazing father, papa, mentor, and friend. He had a remarkable gift for connection—no one was a stranger to him. Trips to the store or outings often turned into 30-minute conversations with people he’d just met, his warmth and genuine interest leaving them feeling like old friends. His commitment to his children, Daniel-Cameron Wilson Kemp and Mary Kaitlyn Cowe (Kemp), was unwavering. Scott never missed a single event for his children, actively participating in their lives, from school events for his daughter, Kaiti, to scouting for his son. He began as a dedicated leader in Cub Scout Pack 45 when his son Will joined as a Tiger Cub, continuing through Boy Scout Troop 45, attending every meeting and campout, helping his son achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, and making a lasting impact on the many boys he mentored.
Scott was the devoted son of Geneva King (Steele), who survives him, and the late Ronald Eugene Kemp. He shared a close bond with his living brother, Brian Kemp. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Lori Kemp; his cherished children, Daniel-Cameron Wilson Kemp and Mary Kaitlyn Cowe (Kemp); his daughter-in-law, Joan-Marie Kemp; his son-in-law, Zachary Cowe; and his grandson, Ethan Kemp. Family and friends in Newnan are invited to a visitation on Friday, June 20, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at McKibbon Funeral Home. Scott will then be laid to rest on Keith Springs Mountain, the place he called home, with a service at Keith Springs Baptist Church in Belvidere, Tennessee, on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 3:00 PM. Following the service, friends and family are welcome to gather at Scott’s cabin for a bonfire in celebration of his life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Keith Springs Baptist Church. Condolences may be expressed at www.mckibbenfuneralhome.com or ronaldscottkemp.me.
